Grown for its classic deep-green evergreen foliage which it retains
year-round. Unlike any other boxwood, there is almost no Winter
"bronzing" in English boxwood.
Leaves are very fragrant (Dabney Peeples says they smell like "old
money") and foliage has a distinctive texture, found in no other
boxwood.
Often planted to accent the four corners of an herb or vegetable
garden or space 12-18" apart for low formal hedges.
Plants grow VERY slowly to mature at only about 4' tall and wide.
Expect no more than 1-2" growth a year! Their slow growth rate is the
reason for the higher cost of English boxwood.
Plant in spot which receives some shade from the hottest part of the
afternoon summer sun.
